Journalist killed in Maoist landmines: Odisha CM announces Rs 13 lakh compensation

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced compensation for the family of deceased journalist Rohit Kumar Biswal.

Patnaik announced Rs 13 lakh compensation for the family of deceased Biswal, who was killed in a landmine blast earlier today.

Scribe Rohit Kumar Biswal, a resident of Madanpur-Rampur area of the Kalahandi district, was killed after he accidentally stepped on the land mines planted by the Maoists to target the security forces.

The mishap took place at Karlakhunta Bridge in Mohangiri area under Madanpur Rampur police station limits of the district when Biswal had gone to collect information regarding Mao posters. He was working a well-known regional newspaper of Odisha.

Through, the posters, the red rebels had appealed to the villagers to boycott the Panchayat elections in the area.
