JMM observes 12-hour bandh in Mayurbhanj over Permanent High Court Bench for North Odisha

Baripada: Normal life came to a standstill across Mayurbhanj district today following a 12-hour bandh call by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) over a three-point charter of demands which includes setting up of a Permanent High Court Bench in North Odisha.

Schools, colleges and other educational institutions in the district remained closed whereas shops and other business establishments also downed their shutters to avoid any untoward incidents during the bandh observation to avoid any untoward incidents.

The bandh observance which started at 6 AM in the morning and will continue till 6 PM left streets deserted and commuters facing a lot of problem due to the picketing of JMM activists.

Hundreds of vehicle remained stranded on either side of NH-18 and 49 during the bandh as protestors staged road blockades by burning tyres.

Notably, along with the Permanent High Court Bench demand the JMM is also demanding for return of fund to the depositors of Baripada Urban Cooperative Bank which has defunct recently along with development of rail infrastructure in Mayurbhanj.

JMM has got support from the Mayurbhanj Bar Association on the issue of late.
