Bhubaneswar: In a major development, the original singers of the iconic ‘Rangabati’ song – Jitendra Haripal and Krishna Patel – on Wednesday gave permission to Bollywood singers to perform the famous song at the inaugural ceremony of 22nd Asian Athletics Championship 2017 to be held from July 6th to 9th 2017.
The world famous folk song will be performed by renowned Bollywood singers Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy (Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa).
A problem had arisen when the original singers and composer of the chart busting number apprehended that the visiting singers might take liberty with the original song, demeaning it in the process.
However, the original singers and music director agreed to allow the Bollywood singers to perform the song at the mega inaugural function of the athletics meet on the condition that the originality of the song is maintained.
More than 800 athletes from 45 Asian countries will participate in 42 disciplines in the championship.
