Keonjhar: Unidentified miscreants snatched away gold and silver jewelleries worth over lakhs from a jewellery shop owner in Barbil daily market in Keonjhar district on Saturday.

The loot took place minutes after Tarini Jewellery owner Amar Rana’s son Asmit Rana reached his shop located in the market with a jewellery bag at around 9 AM in the morning. He was busy in rolling up the shutter of the shop when a looter already waiting nearby grabbed the jewellery bag and ran away. As Rana tried to chase him he escaped riding pillion on a Bajaj Pulsar bike with an aide.

Asmit later lodged a case with Barbil Police in connection with the incident.

Asmit said, the jewellery bag was carrying around 40 kg of silver and 600 gram of gold jewellery which would cost over Rs 35 lakh.
