JE Sit-up Case: Arrested Patnagarh MLA Saroj Meher Hospitalised
Balangir: A day after being arrested for humiliating a PWD Junior Engineer (JE) by forcing him to do sit-ups in public, Patnagarh lawmaker Saroj Meher was hospitalized on Tuesday.
As per reports, Meher complained of chest pain following which was immediately admitted to Patnagarh hospital last evening.
After a check-up, doctors informed that the MLA’s health condition is stable but he will be kept under observation.
Noteworthy, Meher was sent to Patnagarh Sub-Jail after the ADJ Court dismissed his bail application on Monday.
On June 5, he had been caught on camera while punishing the JE in public for allegedly low-quality work in Belpada section of this district.
In a video that went viral on social video, Meher can be seen making the JE do sit-ups 100 times in five minutes at Gambhari village- in full public view.
The incident created a huge uproar in the state and the police registered a case against the MLA on the basis of an FIR lodged by the JE’s wife on June 6.
Meher was detained for questioning and later arrested on Monday. He has been charged under Sections 341, 363, 294, 323, 353 and 355 of IPC and Section 3 of SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The lawmaker’s bail plea hearing is scheduled to take place on July 1.
