Jail Warder and Havildar Arrested For Leopard Skin Trade In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of Crime Branch today arrested two more accused including a jail warder connection with trade of leopard skin. Police said that the total number of arrests made so far reached nine.

The accused have been identified as Rashmi Ranjan Mishra (27) working as the jail warder, Special Jail, Rourkela and Likul Kumar Sahu(32) a havildar working with the IRBN, Deogarh.

The STF on June 21 had seized seven feet long leopard hide after conducting a raid in Barkot area of Deogarh district. The investigating agency had also apprehended three accused while they were preparing to strike a deal to sell the skin.

“Subsequently we managed to nab several other members of the gang. Both Mishra and Sahu were members of the gang and they are being interrogated further to ascertain their specific role,” said an official.
