Ivory Smuggling Racket: Jharkhand police arrests Odisha man

Baripada: Jharkhand police on Wednesday arrested a man from Padampur village under Jashipur police limits in Mayurbhanj district for his involvement in ivory smuggling racket. The arrested person has been identified as Abdul Razid Hussain of Padampur village.

Acting on a tip-off, a 17-member team of Jharkhand police with the help of the local police conducted a raid on Hussain’s house this morning and arrested him. Ivories, deer horns, skins and bones of many birds and animals including elephants were recovered during the raid. Cops also seized Rs 14,27,470 from Hussain’s possession.

Meanwhile, the accused has been taken to Jharkhand for interrogation. Police will grill him to extract more information about the smuggling and involvement of others.

Sources said that the neighbouring state police had busted the ivory smuggling racket after arresting a man in Jharkhand who had named Hussain during his interrogation.

Abdul Razid Hussain is said to be the mastermind of the ivory smuggling racket. Police suspect his involvement in the death of elephants, animals and birds in Simlipal National Park.
