Inter-state dacoit gang busted in Sambalpur, 3 held

Sambalpur: In a major success to Sambalpur Police, it arrested at least three inter-state dacoits involved in a number of loot incidents including the Jamankira Andhra Bank branch in the district last month.

The arrested dacoits have been identified as Budhadev Biswal of Jharsuguda, Rakesh Behera of Bargarh districts in Odisha and Ganga Sagar Ray of Uttar Pradesh.

Informing on the arrest at a press conference which was held here today, Sambalpur SP Sanjeev Arora said, a special team of police which had been formed to investigate the Jamankira bank loot case nabbed the accused after conducting raids at different places in Odish and neighbouring states.

“The team also seized at least 3 country made pistols, 12 cartridges, Rs 1.75 lakh in cash, 3 fake number plates, bike used in the loot and 7 mobile phones from the possession of the accused,” added Arora.

The leader of the gang Budhadev is involved in over 12 bank robbery cases across the country, said police.

Notably, the arrested trio Rs 10 lakh at gunpoint from Jamankira branch of Andhra Bank on August 3. Later they stole the hard disk of the CCTV installed at the bank and drove away on a Bajaj Pulsar bike.
