Inter-state council standing committee: CM raises Polavaram, Mahanadi Issues

New Delhi, Apr 09: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik raised the Mahanadi water dispute and Polavaram issues during the inter-state council standing committee meeting here on Sunday.

The Chief Minister opposed the projects undertaken by the Chhattisgarh government on the upper catchment of Mahanadi River and Andhra Pradesh’s Polavaram projects saying the undertakings will badly affect the farmers in the state and demanded to stop the projects.

He also demanded to constitute a tribunal to resolve the Mahanadi water dispute.

“Constitute a tribunal to resolve the Mahanadi water dispute and in the interim stop to construction activity in Mahanadi base in Chhattisgarh to protect the livelihood of people of Odisha,” said Patnaik while speaking to the reporters after the meeting.

The CM also discussed the Maoist issue in the state with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who chaired the meeting.

Besides, he urged the Centre to send forces to control the riot-like situation in Bhadrak.

The CM also demanded funds for the Malkangiri-Jeypore and Jeypore-Nabarangpur rail projects during the meeting.
