Inhuman! Denied Admission For Testing COVID Positive, Odisha Woman Delivers On Roadside; Newborn Dies

Keonjhar: In a shocking incident, the authorities of Tisco Hospital in Joda area of the of Odisha’s Keonjhar district sent a pregnant woman back home after she tested positive for coronavirus on Monday.

A native of Jurudi area of the district reportedly developed labour pain following which she was taken to the Kamarjoda-based government hospital. However, she was shifted to the Tisco Hospital in Joda after she could not be treated in the government hospital.

However, the Tisco Hospital authorities asked the woman to undergo COVID 19 test. Later she was asked to leave the hospital as her reports turned out to be positive for the virus.

The woman, while returning from the Tisco Hospital along with her mother-in-law, delivered a baby boy on the roadside but the unfortunately the newborn died on the spot sometime after its birth.

Some locals who saw the woman and knew about her situation condemned the incident vehemently. They also demanded stringent action against the authorities of the Tisco Hospital saying that the hospital is meant to treat COVID patients and if the woman tested positive for the virus why she was not admitted to the health centre and given medication.
