Inebriated policeman goes berserk, attacks TV journo

Bhubaneswar: In a blatant abuse of power, a police Inspector In-charge (IIC) attacked a journalist while he was trying to capture visuals at Capital Hospital here last night and injured him badly.

As per the reports, the victim journalist Subhrakant Padhiary who works as a reporter in a reputed News Channel reached the hospital last night after getting information on Puri Talabania IIC Ramankant Patra’s vehicle accident. Patra who suffered an accident near Daya River on the outskirts of the city earlier in the night had been brought to the hospital for treatment.

However much to the shock and dismay of Subhrakant, the IIC suddenly got up from his wheel chair at the hospital and started using foul language at him and a photo journalist accompanying him while they were trying to capture visuals. The IIC was in an inebriated condition. Later on the IIC started kicking the duo to prevent them from reporting and even tried to damage their camera.

Subhrakant lodged a case in the incident at Capital Police Station in the same night.

Meanwhile, taking prompt action in the case, Puri SP Sarthak Sarangi transferred the accused IIC to the district headquarter and ordered a probe into the incident.
