Indian economy on right track: PM

PM MODINew Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has slammed his government’s critics and assured the country that the Indian economy is on the right track and the country’s financial stability will be maintained.

Speaking on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee Year Celebrations of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) here on Wednesday evening, Modi said he will not let the present problems jeopardize the future of the country.

The Prime Minister recounted instances in the past when the growth rate had fallen below 5.7 per cent, witnessed in the last quarter. He said that low growth rates on those occasions had been accompanied by higher Inflation, higher Current Account Deficit and higher Fiscal Deficit.

Modi claimed that double digit inflation had come down to less than 3 per cent and Current Account Deficit brought down to 2.5 per cent, while foreign investment in the country has been the highest in the last three years.

The Prime Minister assured the people that the steps taken by the government are aimed at keeping the country in a new league of development in the coming years. He said the present government understands the cost of the hard-earned money of the people and its policies and schemes are aimed at making life easier for the poor and the middle class and also save their money.
