India on a mission to eradicate poverty, says Modi at BRICS

Modi at BRICSXiamen: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India is in a mission mode to eradicate poverty to ensure good health, education, food security, sanitation, skills, gender equality and energy to its people.

Speaking at the Plenary Session of BRICS summit on Monday morning, the Prime Minister said, “National programmes of Clean Ganga, Renewable Energy, Digital India, Smart Cities, Housing for All and Skill India are laying the basis for clean, green and inclusive development. They are also tapping the creative energy of our 800 million youth”.

“After more than a decade of existence, BRICS has developed a robust framework for cooperation. We contribute stability and growth in a world drifting towards uncertainty,” the Prime Minister added.

Modi said BRICS countries can work closely with International Solar Alliance to strengthen the solar energy agenda. He also sought early creation of a BRICS rating agency to cater to financing needs of sovereign & corporate entities of developing countries.

Leaders of five members of BRICS countries – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – participated in the session of the summit. Modi will also have bilateral meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Brazilian President Temer on the sidelines of the summit.

Host country China has invited five guest countries for the summit under its BRICS plus approach. They are Egypt, Kenya, Tajikistan, Mexico and Thailand.
