Include 15 lakh more in NFSY, Surjya Patro urges Paswan

Surjya PatroNew Delhi: Odisha Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Minister Surjya Narayan Patro on Thursday called on Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan here and requested him to include fifteen lakh more people from Odisha in the National Food Security Yojana (NFSY).

Patro asserted that under NFSY, the number of beneficiaries in the state was fixed according to 2011 census. However, the population of the state had increased by around fifteen lakh in the time since then, he pointed out. Hence, the Union government needs to make more rice available for the additional fifteen lakh people, among whom are a sizable number of people from the SC and ST communities who will also be benefited, claimed the Minister.

The Odisha Minister also asked Paswan to release an additional Rs 50 crore to the state under Price Stabilisation Fund at the earliest.

Paswan assured the visiting Minister to look into his proposals and take appropriate action in this regard.

Senior officials of both the state and union government were present during the meeting.
