Imposter posing as policeman held in Sambalpur

Sambalpur: Govindpur Police on Wednesday arrested a youth from Garposh area in the district on charges of cheating a number of girls by posing him as a Police Sub Inspector (SI).

The imposter SI has been identified as Ratneswar Majhi, son of Sanatan Majhi of Sendritanagar in Sundergarh district.

A team of Govindpur Police led by IIC Biswapati Panda conducted a raid on the accused’s house acting upon a complaint lodged by one of the victim girl last night and arrested him. The cops seized a fake Identity Card used by the imposter, cash worth Rs 800, three mobile sets, five ATM cards along with his Aadhar and PAN cards.

Police said the accused who was residing under Govindpur village for past few years had managed to establish contacts with a number of girls in the area over social media, by posing him as SI of either Rourkela Special Squad or Bamra Police Station. He was also threatening the victim girls and their families to falsely implicate in cases whenever needed.

Cases under Sections 170,171,419,420, 354,294,506 of IPC have been lodged against the held imposter and he has been forwarded to court today.
