Imposter cop gang busted in Jeypore; robbery bid foiled, 8 held

Jeypore: In a major success to Jeypore Town Police, it successfully prevented a robbery from occurring last night and arrested at least 8 members of an interstate gang, including imposter cops, while they were planning for a dacoity at Power House Chhak.

Informing on the arrests Jeypore Town Police Station IIC Baleswar Gidhi said, a patrolling team led by Sub Inspector Tapan Kumar Nahak got a tip-off from reliable sources on the dacoit gang and raided the spot immediately.

“During the raid, the cops found the accused planning for a dacoity and were also possessing sharp weapons along with a toy gun. One of the accused was also found in police uniform and was immediately taken into custody. We suspect that they were waiting to loot commuters in the guise of police officers,” he added.

Police seized 12 mobile phones, 2 knives, 2 batons, a car and Rs 5,630 from the possession of the arrested criminals from the spot.

The arrestees include two residents of Madhya Pradesh, one from Bihar, two locals and another from Kalahandi district. They have been forwarded to court.
