IMD predicts more rain, issues ‘Red Alert’ for 3 districts of Odisha

Bhubaneswar: With rain woes continuing to the State, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Regional Centre here has issued more rain for different parts of Odisha in next 2-3 days under the influence of a low pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal.

As per the latest weather bulletin of the MeT Department, fairly widespread downpour is likely to continue in districts like Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur for which it has also issued ‘Red Alert’.

Notably due to a flood-like situation triggered by very heavy rain across the Malkangiri district, a number of bridges got submerged under water. Road communication between Malkangiri and Kalimela along with Kalimela and Padia got completely disrupted due as rain water continued to flow at a height of 3 feet over the Kangrukonda-Potteru bridge on NH-326.

Areas like Poteru, Kankoraokonda, Kanyashram, MV-90 and Korkunda in Malkangiri got badly affected as the district recorded 174.83 mm rainfall in three consecutive days.
