IMD issues thunderstorm, lightning and rain alerts for Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The regional Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) centre here issued thunderstorm warning for Odisha today. The IMD centre predicted that the thunderstorm is likely to be accompanied with gusty surface wind, lightning and light to moderate rainfall.

Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sundergarh are the districts where, as per the IMD report, thunder squall with lightning and hail likely to occur.

Besides, lightning is likely to occur at one or two places over several districts including Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Balangir, Sonepur and Boudh.

This apart, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Kendrapara districts are likely to witness heavy rainfall.

The weatherman, meanwhile, advised the fishermen not to venture into the sea in coastal Odisha and north-west Bay of Bengal during the next 72 hours saying the thunderstorm activity with squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is likely to occur during the next 72 hours.
