IMD issues thunderstorm alert for 8 Odisha districts

Bhubaneswar: IMD Regional Centre here issued thunderstorm, lightning and rain alert for at least eight districts of Odisha till 1.30 PM today.

“Latest Doppler weather radar and satellite imageries indicate that thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and light to moderate rainfall likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Bhadrak and Balasore,” said the latest weather bulletin issued by the centre this morning.

In view of the alert the Weatherman has cautioned people against venturing out of their homes in these districts till 1.30 PM and advised them to take shelter in safe place to avoid any eventuality.

Earlier on the day, the IMD predicted more rain in south-western Odisha till next 24 hours due to a low pressure formed over north-west Bay of Bengal. Heavy rain was predicted in districts like Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput, Ganjam, Bargarh, Keonjhar, Sambalpur and Deogarh.
