IMD issues thunderstorm alert for 8 Odisha districts

Bhubaneswar: The IMD Regional Meteorological Centre here has issued thunderstorm alert for at least eight district of Odisha till 1.30 PM today.

“Latest Doppler weather radar and satellite imageries indicate that thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and moderate rainfall likely two occur at one or two places over the districts of Cuttack, Puri, Khordha, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Dhenkanal and Nayagarh between 9.30 PM and 1.30 PM today,” said the latest Nowcast released by the centre this morning.

People in the alerted districts have been advised by the IMD to not venture out of their homes and move to safe places to avoid any kind of eventuality.

Notably, Bishnupada Sethi, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) had yesterday predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall for today at some places in at least 15 district of the state due to the existence of a well-marked low pressure over north-west Bay of Bengal.
