IMD issues thunderstorm alert for 14 Odisha districts

Bhubaneswar: The IMD Regional Centre here has issued thunderstorm alert for at least 14 districts of Odisha today.

Latest Doppler weather radar and satellite imageries indicate that thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and intense spell likele to occur over the districts like Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sambalpur and Angul will be, said the IMD Newcast released this afternoon.

The alert would remain in effect till 6 PM, as per the prediction.

People have been advised not to venture out of their home during this period and take shelter in safe places to avoid any eventuality.

Notably, the weatherman in its earlier bulleting had already predicted heavy rain for at least 13 districts in the state in next 36 hours due to a low pressure area very likely to be formed over West Central Bay of Bengal and its adjoining areas.
