Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued a lightning and thunderstorm warning for 16 districts in the state.
Lightning and thunderstorm are most likely to occur in the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Sonepur, Puri, Khurda, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore and Bhadrak. The alert would remain in effect from 3 pm to 7 pm, an IMD bulletin issued by the its Regional Centre here this afternoon said.
The bulletin has advised people in these 16 districts to remain indoors during this period and move to safe locations like concrete houses to avoid any untoward incident.
Meanwhile, many places in the northern interior and southern parts of Odisha have witnessed heavy rainfall all through the afternoon today.
