Illegal saw mill sealed in Balasore, 3 held

Balasore: A saw mill operating illegally in Chudunga village under Simulia Police Station area was raided and timbers along with wood cutting instruments worth Rs 5 lakh were seized by Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday. At least three saw mill staff were also taken into custody during the raid.

The raid was conducted by a joint team of Balasore Vigilance, Chandipur Forest Range and Simulia Police officials in the morning, who examined the documents of the mill and sealed it after seizing the machinery.

“Timbers, logs and wood cutting machinery worth over Rs 10 lakh have been seized during the raid which was conducted following an order for the same by Balasore Vigilance SP. The same mill had been sealed earlier but the owner reopened it without permission from the concerned authorities a few days ago,” said Prafulla Kumar Mallick, Forest Range Officer, Chandipur.
