Illegal mining in Odisha: 6 officials suspended in Nayagarh

At least six officials have been suspended in connection with illegal mining scam in Nayagarh district of Odisha on Thursday. 

Nayagarh: At least six officials have been suspended in connection with illegal mining scam in Nayagarh district of Odisha on Thursday.

The Collector of Nayagarh district has suspended as many as six officials in connection with illegal mining in Odisha at Mayurjhalia under Ranpur tehsil limits.

It is worth mentioning that earlier, cases were filed against as many as 11 persons at Ranpur police station following the order of the National Green Tribunal (NGT).

The suspended officials in Nayagarh include two Revenue Inspectors (RI), two Section Officers, one Supervisor, and one Junior Revenue Assistant.

Furthermore reportedly on April 20 2023, the Collector and three other persons were allegedly booked by Chandpur Police for allegedly seeking a bribe of Rs. 25 lakh from a laterite stone mine leaseholder under Ranpur Tehsil.

However, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) later quashed the complaint and directed to register cases against the complainant instead.
