Cuttack: Continuing with the crackdown on unlawful production and selling of firecrackers ahead of Diwali, police today busted a number of illegal firecracker manufacturing units in Jagatpur area here last night and seized a huge cache of explosives.
As per the report, a team of 20 senior police officers and four platoons of force raided the manufacturing units located in Trilochanpur and Mahajanpur villages under Jagatpur police limits and detained 12 persons.
Firecrackers and explosives used in making them including gunpowder, iron dust and potassium nitrate worth Rs 50 lakh were seized from the possession of the held accused also.
While the interrogation of the held accused is underway, police are trying to ascertain from where the raw materials were being supplied to these illegal units and where these products were being sent.
