If there is increase in number of Covid cases after Rath Yatra, We will know soon: Odisha Health Director

Bhubaneswar: The Covid infections are likely to rise in Odisha in the next 10-15 days, informed Health Director Bijay Mohapatra on Sunday. The statement came after Odisha recorded a rise in daily Covid cases and crossed the 300-mark today with 346 new positives.

“The world-famous Rath Yatra has been celebrated in various places of Odisha. If there is an increase in the number of Covid cases due to congregation, we will get to know about within 10-15 days,” said Health Director.

Meanwhile, the covid cases have been rising in the last 10-15 days, however, the progress is slow. Neither hospitalization nor fatality has increased in the state. “Other states are witnessing a rapid rise in Covid cases as compared to Odisha,”‘ he added.

Precautions are being taken on behalf of the department for Covid due to which the public has been asked to stay cautious.

“The Integrated Surveillance Department has been keeping a vigil eye on the Covid situation in which the health workers are going around in search for people with symptoms and testing them. This might be another reason for the increase in the number of infections in the state,” he further added.

Those who have not yet been vaccinated should take their Covid jabs as soon as possible. The public has been requested not to overcrowd unnecessarily and always use masks.
