Bhubaneswar: Three-day International Conference on “Recent Developments in Sustainable Infrastructure (Material & Management)” (ICRDSI 2019) was inaugurated at KIIT Deemed to be University by Mr. Vidya Bhushan, General Manager, East-Coast Railways on July 11, 2019. Experts from cement and steel industries, bankers, developers and researchers joined the conference.
Sustainability of infrastructures is need of the hour, said Mr. Bhushan in his inaugural address. Stating that the engineers should consider sustainability and safety factors while making designs, he stated that the infrastructures made by the British are still in place, but the infrastructures of recent time start showing various problems in a few years of their construction.
Earlier, engineers used to visit the site for survey of various factors before making a design. However these days engineers are preparing designs of various infrastructures sitting in the AC office room, trusting on people who have no technical idea, he said.
Before starting construction, engineers should visit the site and make the design considering safety and sustainable factor, he recommended. During the construction also they should visit the site regularly and supervise the construction work, he added.

Prof. Tarun Kant, Institute Chair Professor, IIT Bombay also pointed out the role of engineers in sustainable infrastructure.
The Conference focuses on various themes including Green Building and Technology, Characterization of Geomaterials and Physical Modeling, Sustainable Materials, Composite and Sandwiched Structures, Computational, Analytical and Numerical Modeling, Forensic Geotechnical Engineering and Case studies, Water Resources Planning and Management, Pavement Materials, Maintenance and Management, Structural Dynamics and Structural Health Monitoring, Solid and Hazardous Waste Management, Innovative Construction Methods, Time and Cost Optimization in Project Management etc.
Among others, Dr. T. C. P. Gomez, Professor, University Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia; Prof. Hurshikesh Mohanty, VC KIIT Deemed University; Prof. Ashoke Kumar Rath, Chairman, ICRDSI-2019 and Prof. B.G. Mohapatra, Co-Organizing Chairman, ICRDSI 2019 & Dean SCE also spoke on the occasion.
ICRDSI was organized by School of Civil Engineering of KIIT Deemed to be University in association with Springer Nature Singapore Pvt Ltd.
