Bhubaneswar: The joy of the residents of Ghumusar Nuagaon under Belguntha block in Ganjam district knows no bounds after R. Balakrishnan, Chief Advisor to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, adopted a century-old government school in the village.Villagers believe that the 1992-built Dr. Sadanand Tripathy Vidyapitha will see new light and change the lives of the students after the adoption. Interestingly, the school is at the birthplace of Odisha’s former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik.

The news of the adoption has spread cheers among the villagers who thanked CM Naveen Patnaik for initiating the ‘Mo School’ campaign. Under the campaign, many IAS officers are coming forward to adopt schools for their holistic development.
R. Balakrishnan himself called up the school headmistress and informed about his adoption. He came forward to connect with the students and their parents alike and make it one of the best schools in the district.

Currently, the school is open for Class IX and Class X students. A total of 87 students have registered their names this year. The school has three classrooms while there are 8 teachers and two assistants.

The school lacks proper laboratory, classrooms, playground and boundary walls. Despite the lack of proper infrastructure, the school had won the ‘PrakrutiMitra’ award earlier.

Locals are hopeful that the school will develop and build the future of the village children after the adoption.
Worth mentioning, CM Naveen Patnaik launched the ‘Mo School Abhiyan’ on Children’s Day in 2017 to bring alumni, their alma mater and the community for transformation of government schools.
