Bhadrak: In a fresh revelation in gruesome double murder and rape case of Bhadrak which took the state by storm on Sunday, the accused cited ‘revenge’ to be the motive behind the crime today.

The accused identified as Gopinath Mohanty aka Babua in his statement before media this morning said, he killed Rabindra Behuria and his wife Bhaktilata as they were involved in meting out torture to his parents since long. He also claimed of making several failed attempts to eliminate the family which had raised him as a foster son.

“I grew up seeing Rabindra Behuria’s family torturing my parents since my childhood. It was since very long that I was trying to kill the entire family of Behuria. I also made 3-4 failed attempts to murder them in the past but succeeded finally on Saturday,” said the accused in his startling revelation.

“As per my plan I called up Rabindra to consume liquor at a lonely place. After he got inebriated under the influence of the alcohol, I killed him by pushing into a nullah. Then I headed towards his home where I killed Bhaktilata. I also intended to kill his minor daughter but failed in my attempt as one of her neighbours reached the spot hearing the screaming,” he added.

The accused who looked mentally composed claimed that he never intended to escape but rather wanted to surrender to police.

Earlier in the day, Bhadrak Police nabbed Babua near Chandrasekharpur Petrol Pump in the state capital Bhubaneswar. Later, acting upon the information divulged by him the cops managed to recover the body of Rabindra from a nullah located near NH-26 in Dhamnagar area.

Gopinath had pestled Bhaktilata to death with a grinding stone in Talasitha village under Dhamnagar Police Station in Bhadrak on Saturday night. The accused had escaped from the spot after tying the hands and legs of the deceased’s daughter.
