Khordha: In a major development, the accused driver, involved in the scary road accident on Palasuni Sqaure in Bhubaneswar on Monday morning, has been arrested.
The arrested hyva driver has been identified as Soubhagya Ranjan Patra.
Reportedly, the hyva truck driver has been nabbed this morning from Begunia area of Khordha district on charges of negligence, reckless driving over speeding and carrying goods more than permissible limits.
The vehicle was carrying more than 6 and a half tons of load due to which the vehicle lost its balance over the break and crushed a car.
It is to be noted that a government engineer, identified as Sumanta Das, was killed in the accident where his rammed by the speeding hyva truck.
A truck stopped on the NH following which one blue (Sumanta’s car) and another white colour car came to a standstill behind it. Thereafter, the speeding Hyva truck hit the white colour car on its rear which hit across the divider to the opposite side of the road on the bike.
Subsequently, the hyva tuck hit Sumanta’s car crushing it between the two trucks. As a result he lost his life on the spot.
Sumanta, a resident Aiginia in Bhubaneswar, was posted at Barachana in Jajpur district as sub-divisional officer (electrical).
The Odisha Fire Service personnel rushed to the spot and recovered his body. Cutters were used to cut the car and recover his body, added reports. The drivers of other vehicles were admitted to Capital Hospital, Unit-6.
The entire incident was captured by a CCTV camera installed nearby.
