Angul: Tension ran high at Balaram coalmines of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) in Talcher as labourers staged a dharna on its premise demanding compensation for the family members of a colleague who was killed in a road mishap in the wee hours today.
Irate labourers staged a protest before the gate of the coalmines also and demanded job for one member in the family of the deceased Kailash Chandra Moharana.
Kailash, a resident of Kalamchhuin village and a security guard by profession was on a routine check duty at the mines premises when a Hyva truck mowed him down. He died on the spot.
MCL authorities had not started any dialogue with the agitators till this report was being filed.
