Khordha: Tension prevailed at Tulasipur Bazar under Baghamari police limits in Khordha district today, after a speeding Hyva mowed down a bicyclist and angry locals attacked and damaged it.
The mishap took place in the noon while the victim identified as a residence of Naragang village under Banki police limits was on his way to work riding a bicycle. Driver of a sand-laden Hyva which was coming from Banki direction, lost control over the wheels due to reckless driving and ended up running over him from behind. The victim died on the spot.
Angry locals attacked the Hyva with stones and damaged it soon after the mishap and staged a road blockade at the accident spot.
Police rushed to the spot immediately and seized the body for autopsy.
An investigation is underway to trace the driver of the Hyva who managed to escape after the mishap.
