Bhubaneswar: Thousands of Hockey fans who were eagerly waiting to buy a ticket for the mega opening ceremony of the Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup-2018, to be held at Kalinga Stadium here on November 27, alleged that the online ticket booking for the event was more tedious than the offline.

“After our Chief Minister Sir got the first ticket of the opening ceremony of the HWC-2018 yesterday, we were very much hopeful that we would get tickets for the event. We were so eager to buy tickets as Music maestro A R Rahman and Bollywood King Khan Shahrukh Khan will be performing on 27th November at Kalinga Stadium. However, we are extremely disappointed that we could not buy even a single ticket for the event as the website did not open initially. After it opened, we found a queue system. For the first time in my life, I found a queue system to get a ticket even online. In fact, the online ticket booking was more tedious than the offline,” said Sarat Chandra Nayak, a hockey fan.

Adding to Nayak, another sports lover Ritu Rout said, “They should have sold some tickets online and some tickets offline. So that people outside Bhubaneswar could have got the tickets through online and people living in the capital city could have got the offline tickets from the ticket counters. But unfortunately, most of us did not get. It is saddening to say that such a mega international event will be held in our city, but we will not be able to watch live.”

As per the earlier announcement of Hockey India, ticketgenie website started the sale of tickets from 12 noon today. However, it was seen that the website was too slow to load. Later, when it began opening, to their dismay, the fans found queue system following which the enthusiastic hockey fans were greatly disappointed.

The Hockey India had decided to sell all tickets of the inaugural ceremony and Hockey World Cup celebration, which is to be at Barabati in Cuttack on November 28, online after fans vandalized ticket counters at Kalinga Stadium after failing to get the ticket for the opening ceremony on November 15.
