Hotel staff held for video recording bathing woman in Puri

Puri: An employee of a hotel in Odisha’s Puri has been held for video recording a woman while she was taking a bath in her room at the hotel. The hotel, D.K. Hotel is reportedly situated near Harihar Square under Sea Beach Police Station limits in Puri.

The woman is a native of the Sundargarh district. She had checked into the hotel with her family on Saturday.

The alleged employee has been identified as Biplab Mitra, he is said to be around 25-years-old.

Thereafter, while taking a bath on Sunday afternoon, she saw a mobile phone near the bathroom ventilation window. She immediately came out of her room and found the employee making a video on his mobile using a selfie stick.

He deleted the clip immediately after the woman caught him red-handed. However, the woman recovered the deleted video from his mobile’s recycle bin folder. Then she deleted the clips from the folder and handed over the phone to the police.

She also informed about the incident to the hotel owner and other staff.

It has also been alleged that the accused employee’s phone contained videos of several other women who had stayed in the hotel for the last six years.

Puri SP Kanwar Vishal Singh has informed that the Sea Beach Police Station has considered the matter and arrested the employee. He has been booked under sections 354C, 354D, and 509 of the Indian Penal Code and has been forwarded to court.

It is to be noted that the Hotel management has denied their involvement in the alleged crime. The Puri Hotel Owners’ Association demanded stringent action against the accused.
