Hostel In-Charge arrested for alleged rape of a medical student in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Mancheswar Police on Wednesday arrested a hostel in-charge of a private-run Medical College and Hospital in the city for allegedly raping a first year MBBS Student in the campus premises.

The police have also recorded the statement of the victim under Section 161 CrPC and sent her for medical test.

The accused has been identified as Manoj Khuntia, a resident from Athagarh in Cuttack distrct. He works as a hostel in-charge of the institution.

Meanwhile, Khuntia claimed that he is innocent, and all the allegations against him are false and baseless.

“At around 9 PM last night, I saw the girl student and her male friend in a compromising position, while I was coming from the canteen after having my dinner. I immediately shouted on them and told that I would complain the matter near the Principal,” said Khuntia , while speaking to media persons inside the Mancheswar Police Station this morning.

“The couple also requested me not to reveal the matter before anyone with a condition that they would never do such things in future. Later, I went to my room, but the police brought me here at around 4 AM today,” he added saying that he is not involved in any rape case.

A case has been registered against Khuntia on the basis of the girl’s allegations. “We are investigating the case, the truth will come out soon,” said a police official.
