Home secretary in Rayagada to assess flood damage

Asit TripathyRayagada: Home secretary Asit Tripathy arrived here this morning to take stock of the damage due to the recent flood in Rayagada district.

Kalyansinghpur block in the district has been the worst affected in the recent flood that hit the district. The flood was caused after the hanging bridge at Binispur caved in due to increase in the water level in Nagabali and Kalyani rivers.

The entire block is now cut off from the rest of the world as roads have been washed away at many places and there is no electricity or phone connectivity due to the floods.

On Tuesday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik assigned three senior IAS officers to take stock of three flood-hit districts of the state: Rayagada, Jajpur and Bhadrak.

Besides Tripathy, Development Commissioner R Balakrishnan and Additional Chief Secretary, Forest & Environment, Suresh Chandra Mohapatra were assigned to visit Jajpur and Bhadrak district respectively to assess the damage due to the recent flood.

All three officers will submit detailed reports to the Chief Minister on their return based on which mitigation measures would be taken, sources said.
