Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has put emphasis on online tax collection as it has decided to collect the holding tax only on online mode.

BMC has been providing multiple services online through ‘Bhubaneswar.me‘ towards which the responses have been positive from the public.

Reportedly, out of a total of Rs 150 crore in revenue in the last financial year, more than 50 per cent of revenue has been collected online, informed BMC commissioner Sanjay Kumar Singh. He added that this has further encouraged the BMC authorities. Similarly, revenue will also be collected by certifying the case against the major defaulters.

This will make it easier for the people of the capital, including the ward officers and tax collectors involved in BMC’s tax collection. The ward officers and tax collectors of 3 zones have been equipped with special training to collect taxes online.

Currently, the state government has been asked by the BMC to provide certificates to the Deputy Commissioners at the BMC headquarters, while only the zonal deputy commissioners have the power to issue certificates.

Similarly, the BMC Commissioner has also said that the collection of revenue from major defaulters would continue through the transgender group.
