Hockey India Thanks Odisha For Hosting FIH Men’s Series Finals

Kalinga Stadium, the venue of the tournament witnessed damage of infrastructure during 'Fani'

Bhubaneswar: Hockey India today appreciated the effort of the state government and people of the state for extending their support to host the FIH Men’s Series Finals at Kalinga Stadium despite the damage caused to the state capital during severe cyclone Fani. The eight nation tournament will begin from June 6.

President of Hockey India, Mohd Mushtaque Ahmad said that Hockey India is extremely grateful to the people of Odisha for supporting the sport of hockey in such a difficult moment as well.

“It is fantastic to see the response we have received from the local people, and I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Odisha State Government for doing exceptional and prompt work in readying the Kalinga Hockey Stadium for the upcoming FIH Men’s Series Finals Bhubaneswar Odisha 2019,” he said.

The organiser of the event has also roped in 150 volunteers from Odisha including liaison officers, ball patrols, media coordinators and competitions assistants for smooth conduct of the event. Hockey India officials said that the volunteers are from the Sports Department Hostel of Bhubaneswar, Sundergarh and Rourkela.

“I would also like to thank all the volunteers involved in conducting of such events. These young responsible citizens of the state have always come out willingly to help us in organising some of the best hockey tournaments the world has seen,” added Ahmad.

The organisers have earlier decided to contribute all profits from the sale of match tickets to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
