Hockey fever reaches peak level in Bhubaneswar, four more teams arrive

Bhubaneswar: With only one day left for the opening ceremony of Men’s Hockey World Cup scheduled to be held at Kalinga Stadium, teams of Pakistan, Netherlands, Australia and Belgium arrived in the city last night.

With the arrival of the 18-member Pakistan team including players and officials had taken the total number of teams which have reached the city to 12. While, the Commissionerate Police has put in place tight security arrangements for the Pakistan team, it has also assured to provide security to England players during their eating in restaurants located outside the Mayfair Hotel.

While Germany, Ireland and Malaysia are expected to arrive today, the police have beefed-up security for the purpose.

“Police forces have been deployed in and around the Biju Patnaik International Airport and the hotel where the players are staying. Similarly, all arrangements have been made to deploy cops in the stadium during the matches,” assured DGP Rajendra Prasad Sharma yesterday.

Similarly, to make the Hockey World Cup a hassle-free affair for the visitors, the administration has specified seven parking lots in the city. While visitors could park their two-wheelers only at Old AG Colony playground, Behera Sahi playground near Gate No.1 of Kalinga Stadium, Nayapalli Durga Puja ground, the four-wheelers could be parked along with those at IDCOL Ground, NICCO Park Road and Janata Maidan.
