Nayagarh: Nayagarh police nabbed a most wanted criminal after a brief encounter at Baramasi Danda near Lenkudipada village here last night.
Identified as Suresh Rout, the dreaded criminal was nabbed while hatching a plan for dacoity in Baramasi Danda area.
The encounter was held after police got specific information on the whereabouts of Suresh last evening. A police team led by Nayagarh Town Police Station IIC immediately raided his hideout. During the raid, Suresh tried to give police a slip and opened fire at cops. After cops retaliated, he sustained bullet injury on his right leg and was nabbed subsequently.
The injured criminal was first rushed to Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital in critical condition and later shifted to SCB Medical in Cuttack.
Police said Suresh has over 30 cases of murder, theft, robbery, and attack pending against him under different police stations in Khordha, Nayagarh, Boudh and Puri districts.
