Sambalpur: Authorities of Hirakud Dam in Odisha’s Sambalpur district released season’s first flood water today.
The water is being released through sluice gate no-7.
Hirakud Dam authorities conducted special prayer ceremonies before opening the gate to release the water, said sources.
More gates of the reservoir will be opened as per the requirement, added the sources.
The water is being released following incessant rains in the upper catchment area of the dam due to monsoon.
Meanwhile, the villagers of as many as nine districts in low lying areas and the local residents have been warned not to venture into Mahanadi river.
