Hirakud dam opens 4 more gates to release floodwater

Sambalpur: In view of the increasing water level at the reservoir, the Hirakud dam authorities today opened four more gates to release floodwater.

As per the dam authorities, six gates of the dam were opened at 6 am today but taking into account the rising water level the decision to open four more gates were taken later.

The water level at the Hirakud dam remained at 623.73 ft gainst the optimal storage capacity of 630 ft till 9 am in the morning. The inflow and release of water at the reservoir stand at 1,88,672 cusec and 1,16,871 cusec per second respectively, currently.

On the other hand, the water level in Jalaka river in Balsore has registered an increase with the water level flowing above the danger level of 5.50 meters at 6.48 meters.
