Hindi poet Viswanath Prasad Tiwari to get ‘Gangadhar National Award’

Sambalpur: Eminent Hindi poet Viswanath Prasad Tiwari will be honoured with the prestigious ‘Gangadhar National Award’ during the 53rd Foundation Day celebrations of Odisha’s Sambalpur University next month.

The award, carrying a cash prize of Rs 50,000, a shawl and citation, will be presented to Tiwari on the Foundation Day celebrations of the Sambalpur University in January, Vice-Chancellor Deepak Behera said today.

The awarded, instituted in memory of Odisha’s renowned poet Gangadhar Meher, is conferred on a poet of national repute every year since 1991.

79-year-old Tiwari, a former president of Sahitya Academy, has authored several anthologies. Popular among his writings include ‘Kavita kya hai’, ‘Saath chalte hue’, Phir Bhi Kuch Rehjayega’,‘Rachana ki sarokar’, Bistar duniya le liye’ etc.
