High Court Bar Assn opposes setting up of 2 new HC benches in Southern & Western Odisha

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court Bar Association has opposed setting up of 2 new High Court Benches in the Western and Southern Odisha. Union law minister Kiran Rijiju had stated about it to an English daily. The members of the High Court Bar Association opposed the matter in the General Council meeting held on May 18.

As per Supreme Court directive a High Court Bench cannot be established in 600 km radius of a High Court. On this occasion the Bar Association said that since the Orissa High Court is in Cuttack there is no requirement of HC Bench at any other place in the State.

Court should be established in every block to justify ‘Justice at doorstep’, the Bar Association said. Besides, now advocates can also execute Court work on virtual mode.

Soon a committee will be formed by the Bar Association in this matter. This committee will meet the HC Chief Justice and give him memorandum in this matter, informed HC Bar Association secretary Alok Prasad Nanda.
