Heavy rains likely in North Odisha in next 24 hours

depressionBhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday predicted heavy rain in Odisha over the next 24 hours under the impact of a depression formed over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining North Bay of Bengal.

A bulletin issued by the IMD regional centre here this morning said the system would initially move west-northwestwards and intensify into a deep depression during the next 24 hours.

Under its impact, heavy rain may occur at one or two places in some districts of North Odisha including Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Keonjhar and Sundargarh. Other parts of the state, including Angul and Dhenkanal, will witness rains till Tuesday.

The bulletin forecast strong and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40 to 45 kmph along the Odisha coast and said sea condition would be rough to very rough along and off the coast.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea along and off Odisha coast.
