Heavy Rain: Water level in Machkund Reservoir nearing danger mark

Koraput: Leaving the locals in a state of panic the water level in the Machkund hydroelectric project here flew near the danger mark today post a heavy downpour in the upper catchment areas.

As per the sources the water level in the Machkund reservoir rose to 2588.08 feet as against the danger mark of 2590 feet.

Taking the matter into account with urgency later, the dam authorities later opened the gate number-8 of the project to allow around 1,000 cusecs of water release through it.

The situation could reach an alarming proportion as a cyclonic circulation formed over Bihar and Jharkhand has intensified into low pressure area and is likely to bring more rain to several parts of Odisha in next 48 hours, fear weather experts.
