Heavy rain lashes Malkangiri, schools to remain closed for two days

Malkangiri:  Moderate to heavy rain continued to lash various parts of Malkangiri district in Odisha on Friday. Five blocks including Kalimela, Kudmulgumma, Khairput , Padia and Malkangiri received over 115 mm of rain while Kalimela recorded the highest rainfall of 145 mm this morning.

The Malkangiri district administration declared the closure of all schools both government and private in the district for today and tomorrow in view of incessant rain.

Normal life was thrown out of gear in many parts of the district following heavy rain. Low-lying areas in the district have been reeling under water-logging.

Vehicular movement was disrupted in several block headquarter towns as the river water was flowing over the bridges in Khairput and Kalimela area.

The district administration has asked all officials concerned to remain alert for possible flood in the district.
