Heavy Rain: Bridges submerged, several places cut-off in Malkangiri

Malkangiri: Incessant rain has triggered a flood-like situation in Malkangiri causing a number of bridges located in low-lying areas to submerge under water and posing tough time for commuters.

As per the report, due to the torrential rain which lashed the district in past couple of days the communication line between Malkangiri and Kalimela along with Kalimela and Padia has been completely disrupted. Rain water is flowing at a height of 3 feet over the Kangrukonda-Potteru bridge on NH-326, it adds.

Similarly, areas like Poteru, Kankoraokonda, Kanyashram, MV-90 and Korkunda have been badly affected by the heavy rain. A number of bridges in these areas have been submerged under water causing hundreds of vehicles to remain stranded on both sides of the roads.

While the district has recorded 174.83 mm rainfall in last three days, the MeT Department has predicted more rain in the State from in the coming days. As per a bulletin a cyclonic circulation formed over Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a low pressure within one or two days to cause more rain in Odisha from August 1.
