Heatwave In Odisha: 15 Places Record Temperature Above 40 Degree Celsius Today

Bhubaneswar: As many as 15 places recorded temperature above 40 degree celsius in Odisha today, informed the City-based regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The latest bulletin of the IMD revealed that the 15 places which witnessed temperature above 40 degree Celsius today include Talcher and Angul which sizzled at 42.7 degrees Celcius today. This is the highest temperature of the day.

The other 13 places where the maximum day temperature touched the 40-degree Celsius mark today are Baripada (42.2), Jharsuguda (40.6), Sambalpur (41.4), Sundergarh (41.5), Hirakud (40.7), Bhawanipatna (41.6), Phulbani (40.0) Titilagarh (42.2), Malkangiri (42.0), Sonepur (40.8) Nayagarh (41.7), Boudh (42.0) and Paralakhemundi (42.2).

Indian Met Department (IMD) Chief Mritunjay Mahapatra earlier today informed that the heatwave condition in the State is likely to be reduced.

The IMD Chief said that maximum day temperature may reduce and thunderstorm activity is likely to occur in some districts of coastal and adjoining interior parts of the State.

Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada.

However, the IMD Chief also added that heatwave to very severe heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail in some districts of Odisha.
