Heatwave grips Odisha; Sambalpur sizzles at 45.2 degree Celsius

Bhubaneswar: The severe heatwave continued to grip in several parts of Odisha with mercury recorded above 40 degrees Celsius at 13 places in the state including the State capital here on Tuesday.

Sambalpur became the hottest place in the state recording 45.2 degree Celsius today. While Hirakud sizzled at 44.4 degree Celsius, Jharsuguda recorded 44.2 degree, Sonepur 44 degree, Titlagarh 43.4 degree, Talcher 42. 5 degree , Balangir 41.8 degree, Angul 41.7 degree, Sundergarh 41 degree, Bhawanipatna 40.6 degrees, Malkangiri 40.2 degree, Bhubaneswar 40.3 degree, Chandbali 40 degree, according to the Regional Office of IMD here.

In other parts of the state, the mercury hovered above 35 degree Celsius. Cuttack witnessed maximum temperature of 39.8 degree Celsius today.

Earlier in the day, the Met Dept warned elderly people, children, and persons with chronic diseases to avoid heat exposure.
